Ken Langone Born and raised twenty miles outside of Manhattan in tightly-knit Italian family Ken Langone has been blessed in business and life. He has been an enormous success in business, worth over a billion dollars. As a family man he has been fortunate to find happiness in his wife of over forty years, Elaine. Together they have three grown children. Kenneth Langone has made a career out of beating the odds. As a high school senior his principal told his parents they'd be "wasting their money" by sending Langone to college. Undeterred by the principal's discouragement they sent him to school anyway. The future founder of Home Depot made them proud by graduating from Bucknell University in three-and-a-half years. He earned degrees in Political Science and Economics, laying the foundation for a career that would heavily involve both politics and business. Working full-time in Manhattan he attended NYU's Stern School of Business four nights per week in an attempt at earning his MBA. With the odds against him succeeding he, again, cruised through the demanding rigors of graduate school and graduated in two years. The billionaire's career has been a fairy tale complete with Langone playing the role of the knight in shining armor. And now in his latest endeavor to purchase the New York Stock Exchange the odds are once again stacked heavily against him. The naysayers are plenty and while the supporters are a small few, they are quickly growing. For a man who's made a career out of beating the odds, one more fight won't hurt. |
